Tattoo Kits

A quick search on the internet will show you some online Tattoo Stores and equipment supply companies that sell Tattoo Kits for under One hundred dollars, why even our own store has a range of Tattoo Kits for under one hundred dollars!

In our experience running our web store, while it may be very tempting to pick up such a kit, we usually find the same people coming back to us to buy extra inks and supplies in a very short time. We will often find that these people spend upwards of another One hundred to two hundred dollars after purchasing a Tattoo Kit for under One Hundred dollars.

If you are thinking of making such a purchase you might be better off spending another fifty dollars at the start and saving yourself a decent amount of money in the long run. Once you start looking at the range of kits we have or other web stores sell, that are at the One hundred and fifty dollar mark you will find you have many more options, as far as extra machines, extra needles, spare sets of gloves and extra tubes and grips. For that little bit extra spent up front can save you a few hundred dollars on the back end of your purchase.

I Know these days every one is on a very tight budget but it is something to consider before you go and make a purchase of a tattoo kit if you would like to save some money. Especially in the early days and you are learning what the whole industry is all about.

You can check this link here to find kits that are still low priced but include everything that you will need to become a Tattoo Artist.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
What is a good site that sells tattoo kits based in the uk?
I want to find a good site that sells full tattoo kits, that isnt from a dodgy seller.

    • ANSWER:
NO SITE THAT SELLS KITS ARE GOOD.

No reputable tattoo supply company sells ‘starter’ kits. That is because a trained tattoo artist knows what he wants and needs. All the starter kits available are filled with crap supplies. The machines are crap and cannot even be tuned to work properly without a complete rebuild.

To get started in the industry build a portfolio of your art work. Make sure the portfolio contains mostly pen & ink renderings that show your line stability. Then with a bit of patience begin to showcase this portfolio to local artists that you would like to learn from. Eventually one of them may like your work, if it is good enough, and take you in.

If this is not an option for you and you refuse to listen to wisdom then before you buy any equipment please so TONS of research on sterilization and blood borne pathogens. Then begin doing research on tattoo machines. What they are. How and why they work. And be sure to learn how to tune a machine to do certain tasks.

For good equipment it is going to cost you and may take a while to find. But now and then there are actually good custom machines listed on ebay. Be careful because most of them are crap someone built in there garage.

  2. QUESTION:
Temporary tattoo kits have you used any before?
I’m planning on getting a tattoo soon but I want to play around with placement and other ideas before I take the plunge and make my appointment. I also want to play a little prank on my family hahah :) I was wondering if anyone has ordered or bought the print your own temporary tattoo paper/kits before and how well they work or don’t work. thanks!

    • ANSWER:
you can actually get the paper that tattoo artist use to place the tattoo on you and draw something up to place. Or go to a tattoo artist and tell them what you are wanting to do. They could help you.
  3. QUESTION:
Do the at home henna tattoo kits really work?
I have gotten a couple of henna tattoos down the shore before but i’d really like to do them myself. Do the at home kits work? Are they really worth the money?

    • ANSWER:
The good ones from reputable sellers will be worth it, the ones sitting on a bookstore shelf probably aren’t worth the money. Here’s the thing, henna is actually kinda cheap, but like all plants it needs to be fresh to be best. Stale henna sucks like stale tea or stale oregano, so trust people that keep their powders in freezers. Henna sitting on a shelf for months or years will likely be stale and stain poorly.

Everything else you need to mix henna you probably have. Sour liquid, something sweet like sugar, and an essential oil that contains terps like Tea Tree or Lavender. So you’re paying for really cheap stuff, probably 20g of henna, some citric acid, and a drop or two of essential oil. That’s maybe worth of ingredients, so don’t pay for an off the shelf henna kit.

  4. QUESTION:
where can i get henna tattoo kits at for cheap?
i want to get henna tattoo kits but i don’t know where to get them at.

    • ANSWER:

I use their products every week and love the color and the kits are amazing.http://www.hennacaravan.com/wholesale.html
or just buy one kit from the supplies page and have a great time with henna.
  5. QUESTION:
Is MonsterSteel a good place to buy tattoo kits?
I am a tattoo apprentice and I know that buying a kit isn’t the best way to go, but I am on a budget and I will just be using a small kit for the short term until I have the money to buy more professional equipment. I want to know the best place to buy from, and I have heard of Monstersteel before.

    • ANSWER:
Your not an apprentice, your a scratcher! No tattoo master would let an apprentice use a worthless cheap tattoo kit, which would screw up every client they touched. All apprentices get their machines from their masters. If they cannot afford them, their masters let them borrow theirs until they can.

Get a tattoo kit, then expect your art to show up here:

  9. QUESTION:
Where can I get henna tattoo kits in new jersey?
I live in Bergen County New Jersey and I was wondering where I can get Hanna tatto kits in the area. My parents have this thing about odering online so i need to know if there is some stores in the norther new jersey area that sell the kits. Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
You can buy kits at Walmart. I have done this before, but the downside is that the ink only lasts about 2 weeks rather than a month. You might try finding an Indian grocery store or something similar. Also, in the summer (I’m in Mt) I buy my henna pre-mixed from a woman at our local farmer’s market. You’d be surprised at all the places you can buy henna at. It’s becoming really popular.

Edit: Just some advice. After you henna the skin, cover the design with “paper tape”. This is a first aid tape that can be found at walgreen’s etc. It helps the ink stay in place so that you don’t have to be super careful for the 8 hrs it has to stay on your skin. You can even sleep with it and not worry about rubbing. It also helps the design last longer and be darker.

    recommendations on beginner tattoo kits?
I have a buddy that is a professional tattoo artist. and i am going to start receiving training from him but i would like to know if there are any recommendations on beginner tattoo kits. which ones are worth research and which ones are not worth the time? i would really appreciate and help thank you!

    • ANSWER:
If your buddy is a professional, then he works in a professional shop and plans on apprenticing you AT HIS SHOP. In most staes this requires a legal agreement and him signing a note of responsiblilty for you to aquire a learners permit of sorts.

You wont need any beginner kit. If he’s worth learning from he will guide you through the process of identifiying and purchasing quality machines WHEN YOUR READY. Or if he is super traditional, like the dude that apprenticed me, then he will give you a pair of workhorses when you test out for your licence! :)

Looking for Henna Tattoo kits or someone who does them in Detroit Metro area.?
I want to do henna tattoos on my son for Halloween and for a party tomorrow night. Does anyone know of a place in the Detroit Metro area that sells Henna tattoo kits or anyone who does Henna temporary tattoos?
I’ve had henna tattoos before so I know about them – the problem is I’ve only had them done at Ren Fest and it’s over for the year so I need to know where I can find someone to do it besides Ren Fest.

    • ANSWER:
Go to an Indian grocery store…Couple of them in Flint. They sell henna filled cones. Use it like icing on cake. Make the design, and then let it dry…for more intense color, keep the hanna wet with lemon juice. The acid will intensify the color. Leave it overnight for dark color. When dry, just scrape it off. Try not to wash it, otherwise other areas will get colored.

Ask at the store, where to find someone to do henna. Usually, ladies who thread eyebrows also do henna tatoos.

      Best luck…

  20. QUESTION:
Are the tattoo starter kits on ebay any good?
I want to learn and i see some on there in the 9 – 180 price range, and they come with everything to start. I’m not looking for professional stuff, just something to learn with. If its something i end up being good at I can buy better. Any one had any experience with these? Are they junk? Any input would be nice. Thank you.

    • ANSWER:
If you really want to learn to tattoo please do it the proper way and get an apprenticeship with an experienced tattoo artist.

Forgive me, but if you intend on making a career out of this you should be aware that no respectable tattoo artist wants to work with someone who tattooed with an eBay “starter kit” out of their kitchen. If you go to a tattoo shop with a portfolio of drawings in hand and a desire to learn someone will take you on. You can learn how to tattoo properly, under supervision, not by guessing and endangering people. Tattoo equipment is sterilized using hospital-style equipment (autoclaves, ultrasonic cleaners), you don’t have access to any of this stuff. You will only endanger anyone you tattoo.

Please, please don’t do it. Get a proper apprenticeship instead.

  21. QUESTION:
What Tattoo training kits are the best quality, and value.?
What are the pros and cons,of self tattooing, and is tattooing as a skill, hard to master ?

    • ANSWER:
None are. You can cause serious damage to someone by tattooing them if you do not know what you are doing. You need to know how to stretch the skin, what depth to go, which angle to hold machine at, pitch and throw of a machine. How much of the needles to leave out etc etc.
Its far too complicated to explain. You need a tattooing apprenticeship from a reputable tattoo studio. We see so many “home done” tattoos that we then have to cover. A lot of people have severe scar tissue because the person trying to tattoo has no idea what they are doing.
It is a very hard skill to master. You need to be an artist so that you can advise people on what looks best. The skills needed are so vast people don’t realise how hard it is.
  22. QUESTION:
where is a good tattoo started kits?

    • ANSWER:
Fisher Price has a good starter kit. My 3 year old has a Mom tattoo
  23. QUESTION:
Is there an age limit on buying tattoo guns or kits online?

Haha no im not planning on tattooing myself or anyone else. I was just wondering.

    • ANSWER:
They’re not guns, they’re machines. (well, maybe what you buy on E-bay could be called a gun) Machines of any quality are usually 0 to 0, and are usually referred to as Tattoo Irons, as the iron frame makes for a better magnetic field, than most other metals. The best machines are handmade, with silver front binding posts and contact screws, hand wrapped iron coils, with 3/8 or 5/16 cores, and have a lifetime warranty. The cheap, mass produced Chinese machines usually have aluminum cores, and are junk from the word go. My personal preferences are the Micky Sharpz line, for American made machines, or the Martini Irons line of machines, which are handmade in Italy, and are top shelf. Go to martini-machines.com to check out some of the finest handmade tattoo irons in the world. Oh, yeah, they don’t sell to minors. Take care.

  34. QUESTION:
Any suggestions on the best tattoo kit to purchase?
I’m trying to start tattooing, I would like to know if anyone knows of any good quality beginner tattoo kits.

    • ANSWER:
Well, there’s a lot to it. First of all, you’ll need a fairly good art background to begin with, and secondly you’ll need someone already in the buisiness to teach you how it’s done. Also, (very important) most tattoo supply houses won’t sell to anyone that isn’t a licenced tattooist. Some will sell you a machine, a power source, and a few things… but you will need an autoclave or dry heat sterilizer, an ultrasonic cleaner, tattooing furniture setup, (old dentist chairs are easy to come by) an armrest that is adjustable, a layout bench, and a place to arrange it all where the enviroment can remain as sterile as possible. Also, it’s legal to tattoo in your home, but it isn’t legal to charge money for it, or tattoo anyone that doesn’t have a picture I.D. stating that they are absolutly over eighteen years of age. Also, there’s such a wide assortment of needles and sterile packaged needle bars to use in different applications, you’re going to need some guidance. Pig ears, practice skin, and fruit are okay, but they don’t have the same drag as human skin, so help is needed. Otherwise, you’re going to make mistakes that will be around all of someones life. The HIV virus dies fairly quickly after exposure to air, but Hep C can live on a dried surface for thirty-six hours. As for the best equipment to buy, you really do get what you pay for. The cheap stuff, (.00 machines, et cetera) are junk from the get-go. A lot of less-than-scrupulous manufacturers are making a killing selling this crap to people who really don’t know the difference. In short, get some tattoos, get to know the local artists in your area, and shoot for an apprenticeship. It’ll save your hide. Thanks!
  35. QUESTION:

  36. QUESTION:
what is the best brand of tattoo supplies…(ink, tattoo gun, tattoo kits)?
my husband does tattoos and i want to get him something good..he has worked in a shop at the island for a while now but i dont have tattoo knowledge can someone please give me some good brands!!! THANKS!!!

    • ANSWER:
Give him 0 for a new machine. Chances are he will use different ink/needles/supplies and will want to get his specific brand. You could ask his co-workers and they might know something specific that he wants or needs but there are too many brands out there and you don’t want to get the wrong one, you know. Also, many reputable suppliers will only ship to tattoo studios.

Pretty much every tattooist has his/her eye on a new machine so I would suggest that.

  37. QUESTION:
where is the best place to shop for tattoo kits online?

    • ANSWER:
If you are a professional artist, you would know the answer to this already. If you are an apprentice, you should ask your mentor. Reputable suppliers will only sell to professionals.

We don’t teach people how to tattoo online or help scratchers.

  38. QUESTION:
does any public store sells tattoo kits?
am curious… does anyone know any public stores that sells tattoo kits? ty…

    • ANSWER:
Not that I’ve seen, but most of these kits are marketed towards scratchers doing illegal tattoos in their homes with little to no knowledge of cross contamination or technique. Considering these “kits” cost as much as a professional artist spends on a single machine, they are generally a rip-off and I would not suggest them to anybody. I pray that if you decide to purchase one of these kits, do not use them on anybody, including yourself, until you have proper instruction in its use from a professional artist. Although they might be cool if you want to use it for some kind of arts and crafts (leather working, wood, etc.), unless they come with an autoclave, they are pretty much useless to do tattoos with. Also, if you are interested in some day becoming a professional artist, some people will not apprentice you if you have all ready picked up bad habits and possibly a bad reputation by trying to do it on your own. You have been warned…

  46. QUESTION:
Henna Tattoo kits for a teen?
Im 15 and want to find a cheap easy henna tattoo kit. Just black and one that is easy to re apply. Any ideas? Looking for a price range around if possible

    • ANSWER:
stay away from anything labelled as black henna. It could potentially make you allergic to dark hair dyes, the dyes in dark clothing, even newsprint.
as the other poster said, natural henna is only reddish brown. Since I don’t know where you are it’s hard to make a recommendation on where you can go, but PLEASE avoid black. You may have had it before, but every time you do you are more likely to have a reaction, and that reaction can lead to permanent scarring. It has also been linked with an increased risk of liver cancer, but that is more for people who use it/work with it all the time.
